Paul C. Johnson Foundation
Paul C. Johnson, Chairman and CEO of Sealed Power Corporation (predecessor of SPX Corporation) and son of the founder, established the Paul C. Johnson Foundation in 1989 as a Supporting Organization of the Community Foundation. A $3 million dollar gift and a vision of creating the means to address the changing needs of the community secured Paul C. Johnson’s legacy. As a Supporting Organization, the Johnson Foundation complements the Community Foundation’s mission and expands the capacity of the Community Foundation to address the community’s most urgent needs.
The Paul C. Johnson Foundation has returned over $1.7 million dollars to the Muskegon area through numerous grants including the pavilion at Heritage Landing and a one-third partnership interest in the Downtown Muskegon Development Corporation (DMDC).
In 2002, together with the Community Foundation and the Muskegon Area Chamber of Commerce, the Johnson Foundation formed the DMDC and purchased the former Muskegon Mall property. This action was taken to assure a future for the property consistent with the vision established by Muskegon area residents through the Imagine Muskegon process. During 2007 and beyond, the Johnson Foundation with its partner organizations will continue to provide financial support for one of Muskegon’s most critical needs – that of rebuilding downtown Muskegon. The Johnson Foundation is committed to helping provide the leadership that will assure a vibrant re-birth of Muskegon that reflects the future and vision of what Muskegon will become.
