What is a Community Foundation?

Grant support + community help = beautification of Rowan Park in Downtown Muskegon Heights!

If you think a community foundation is a nonprofit organization created by local residents to improve their communities, you’re right. But that’s just the beginning.

We work with donors, grantees, advisors and our communities to identify and support the issues that shape our area. By bringing people together around a common mission, and creating links between resources and your vision for the future, we’re helping ensure that our communities remain vital and strong.

"I believe the Community Foundation represents all that is good in this community, people helping people, encouraging and facilitating philanthropy, all to help us continue to offer an excellent quality of life and achieve the goals and vision we have for ourselves and our children."  - Former Trustee Gary Post

Why invest in a community foundation?

There are many reasons to invest in your local community foundation. Community foundations go beyond simply making grants that advance charitable activities. They also identify current and emerging issues, channel resources to address their communities’ needs, and help their regions prepare for the future.
